A Bembel – the traditional Frankfurt apple wine jug – represents everyday life, conviviality and a strong regional identity.
But what happens when this familiar object breaks and is reassembled in a completely new form?

This work deals precisely with this moment of transformation. The fragments of a broken Bembel (a traditional Hessian stoneware jug) are transformed into an object that speaks of memory, vulnerability, and togetherness: from the shards of the jug, a new, almost spherical sculpture emerges.

The broken areas are highlighted with gold – not to conceal the damage, but to make it visible. The act of repair takes center stage, transforming the broken piece into something precious.

The work is reminiscent of the Japanese technique of Kintsugi, in which cracks are filled with gold to emphasize that beauty can be found even in imperfection.
Here, this idea meets a piece of Frankfurt culture: The Bembel, a symbol of community, becomes a metaphor for how new perspectives can emerge when we reassemble what we thought we knew.
